Usage

あまり + 否定文

Description

　「あまり」は、程度がそれほど高くないことを表す副詞で、主に否定文とともに使用されます。口語では「あんまり」として使われることも多いです。「あまり」is an adverb indicating a low degree, often used in negative sentences. In spoken language, it is commonly used as「あんまり」. Similar to "not much” in English.

Examples

この商品しょうひんはあまり人気にんきがありません。This product is not very popular.

今日きょうはあまり暑あつくありません。It is not very hot today.

この提案ていあんはあまり賛成さんせいできません。We cannot agree with this proposal very much.

この条件じょうけんはあまり有利ゆうりではありません。These terms are not very advantageous.

ここはあまり賑にぎやかじゃないですね。It’s not very lively here, is it?
