Description

　この文型は、予想や期待と異なる結果が生じた時に使われる表現です。何かが起こると予想していたものの、意外にも違う結果が現れたことを強調します。驚きや意外性を伴う場面でよく使用されます。 This sentence pattern expresses that an unexpected result occurred, differing from the expectation. It is used when something surprising or unexpected happens.

Examples

今日きょうは晴はれるかと思おもいきや、突然とつぜん雨あめが降ふり出だした。I thought it would be sunny today, but it suddenly started raining.

試験しけんは簡単かんたんかと思おもいきや、予想以上よそういじょうに難むずかしかった。I thought the exam would be easy, but it was harder than expected.

新あたらしいレストランは人気にんきかと思おもいきや、店内てんないはガラガラだった。I thought the new restaurant would be popular, but it was almost empty.

仕事しごとを終おわらせたと思おもいきや、まだ半分はんぶんしか終おわっていなかった。I thought I had finished the job, but it was only half done.
