Description

　「せめて〜」は、望ましい結果や理想に達しない場合でも、少なくともこれだけは欲しい、これくらいは達成したいという最低限の希望を表す表現です。多くの場合、物事が期待通りに進まないときに、妥協点として最低限の要求を述べるときに使われます。「せめて〜」 expresses the minimum desire or hope even when ideal results cannot be achieved. It is often used to state a compromise or minimum requirement when things do not go as expected.

Examples

せめて一言ひとこと謝あやまってほしい。At least I want an apology.

せめて電話でんわぐらいしてくれればよかったのに。You could have at least called me.

せめて週末しゅうまつぐらいは休やすみたい。I want to at least have the weekends off.

せめて３０分さんじゅっぷんだけでも話はなしができればいいのですが。It would be great if we could at least talk for 30 minutes.

せめて少すこしでも役やくに立たてればうれしいです。I’d be happy if I could at least be of some help.
