【Description】
この文型は、ある状況や条件であれば多少受け入れられるが、それ以上は到底受け入れられないという話し手の感情を表す表現です。
【Translation】This sentence pattern expresses that, while a situation or condition might be somewhat acceptable, anything beyond that would be completely unacceptable.
【Examples】
・一度だけならまだしも、何度も同じミスをするのは問題だ。
【Translation】It would be somewhat acceptable if it happened only once, but making the same mistake multiple times is a problem.
・小学生ならまだしも、高校生がこの問題を解けないのはおかしい。
【Translation】It would be somewhat acceptable if it were an elementary school student, but it’s strange that a high school student can’t solve this problem.
・一日ぐらいならまだしも、二日以上の断水は耐えられない。
【Translation】A one-day water outage would be somewhat acceptable, but more than two days is unbearable.
・値段が高いのはまだしも、品質が悪いのは許せない。
【Translation】It’s somewhat acceptable if the price is high, but poor quality is unforgivable.
・お金が少し足りないのはまだしも、全く足りないのは困る。
【Translation】It would be somewhat acceptable if there was just a little bit of money missing, but it’s troubling if there’s none at all.
