外来語のアクセント
1.外来語とは
外国で使われていた言葉が、日本語の発音や表記に合わせて使われるようになったものです。
多くはカタカナで書かれます。
Loanwords are words once used abroad that came to be used in Japanese, adapted to Japanese pronunciation and spelling.
Most of them are written in katakana.
外来語の例
カタカナで書かれていても、外国語由来でなければ外来語ではありません。
Even if a word is written in katakana, it is not a loanword unless it comes from a foreign language.

2.一般的な外来語のアクセント(３拍以上)
標準語の場合、外来語の多くは、単語の最後の仮名から数えて３拍目の直後に音の下がり目があります。
例外もありますが、たくさんの外来語に使えるルールですのでアクセントを判断するときの目安になります。
In standard Japanese, most loanwords have the drop right after the third mora counting back from the last kana.
There are exceptions, but the rule applies to a great many loanwords, so it is a useful guide when working out the accent.
例
最後の仮名から数えて３拍目が促音(っ)・長音(ー)・撥音(ん)の特殊拍のときは、３拍目の直後に音の下がり目はないので、前へ１拍ずらします。
When the third mora counting back from the last kana is a special mora — a geminate consonant (っ), a long vowel (ー) or a syllabic nasal (ん) — no drop can come right after it, so the drop shifts one mora earlier.

3.二拍の外来語のアクセント
外来語が２拍しかない場合は、最初の仮名の後ろに音の下り目があります（頭高型）。
When a loanword has only two moras, the drop comes after the first kana (head-high type).

「最後の仮名から３拍目」に当てはまらない外来語もあります。
以下の外来語は、いずれも音の下がり目のない平板型で発音されます。特に４拍の語では、平板型になることがよくあります。
Some loanwords do not follow the 「third mora from the last kana」 rule.
The loanwords below are all pronounced as the flat type, with no pitch drop. Four-mora words in particular are often flat.

外来語のアクセントには個人差や時代による揺れもあり、同じ語でも複数の言い方が辞書に載っていることがあります。特に、もともとアクセント核があったものが平板化することもあります。
The accent of loanwords also varies from person to person and from era to era, and a dictionary may list more than one pronunciation for the same word. In particular, words that once had an accent nucleus sometimes become flat.
